No AGATB movie…yet.
July 23, 2009
Libba has updated her blog to say that the second option for ‘A Great and Terrible Beauty’ has ran out and that there are no current plans renew it. As of right now, the movie version of AGATB is out.
So right now, there is no movie version planned. Could a studio snap these books up tomorrow? Sure. Could happen. Could happen next month, next year, in ten years, twenty. Or never. Or who knows? Maybe one of you lot will go to film school and option the rights someday. That would be amazing. And there is always my suggestion of the guerilla, backyard movie version.
But the books live on. You can make movies in your head, see the characters however you like, imagine the rooms of Spence and the creatures of the realms. When you read, you are the cast, the crew, the director, and the audience. Not a bad deal.
Listening Library – Fantasy Road Trip Contest
June 2, 2009
Libba has updated her blog with some info on a new contest in which you can win a 8GB iPod and signed audiobooks (by Libba, Tamora Pierce, or Rick Riordan). You must be between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, you need to create a video incorporating a reference to Florida, a reference to audiobooks, and a clip of dialogue from the audio you’ve chosen, and then post it as a video response on Youtube.
The contest will run from June 1 to August 17. You can see all the rules at Random House’s website on the left-hand column. Good luck if you enter!

Since you like magic and all…
February 4, 2009
My friend Sean is a magician, for lack of better word, and he just launched his blog. He’s brilliant, and he’ll have videos on his blog sometime so you can witness it. His style is more like that of Derren Brown rather than rabbits in hats and playing cards (though his tricks are pretty cool, too.) Anyway, if he ever does a show in your area, you should definitely go.
A Couple Libba Things
February 3, 2009
This one is a little late in being posted, sorry.
Win a role in Libba’s latest short story!
DA RULES
1. You must create something inspired by The Gemma Doyle trilogy. This can be anything you like: Art. Movie trailers. Parodies. Dramatic reenactment. Musical or song. You can do a fanmix of songs inspired by the books. Icons, banners, wallpaper, buttons, postcards. A vlog talking about the books. Photography. Get creative. Go crazy. Have fun.2. You must post the entry in a place where it can be publicly viewed: DeviantArt. Amazon. Booksense. iTunes. Flickr or Photobucket. YouTube. You know, the usual public viewing suspects. Posting it on your blog doesn’t count. Must be public.
3. You must post to the link on my LJ ON THIS BLOG ENTRY ONLY. got it? THIS BLOG ENTRY ONLY. That way we’ve got a central locale. If you post it elsewhere, it will be disqualified. All together now: POST ONLY ON THIS BLOG ENTRY RIGHT HERE.
4. The contest will end on Friday, February 7th. I will choose the winners pretty promptly (since this story is past due…) and announce them the following week. All winners will, of course, get signed copies of the books when they are available down the road. But also, you’ll have a walk-on role in a vampire short story. How cool is that?
5. There are five female characters and four male characters. So, guys, it’s not just for the ladies. Suh-weet.
FYI: Friday is actually the sixth, and she is NOT accepting fan-fiction.
If you haven’t entered yet, you still have a few day! Good luck to everyone!
In other news, the cover for Libba’s new book, Going Bovine, has been released!

Site Update, Casting Rumor
February 2, 2009
The Index has been updated with a section for the books, which includes synopses and quotes. A million thanks to a GDT Index affiliate, The Order, for the quotes. You guys rock!
If anyone is wondering about Dana Benedict being listed on the AGATB IMDB page, it’s just a joke, probably by a fellow Shebam (who are the super awesome ladies on the IMDB boards). There is still no one cast for the movie.
Updates
December 20, 2008
Sorry for the lack of updates, guys. I’ve been really busy with school.
With that said, I have finally updated the character bios. The updates only include information form “A Great and Terrible Beauty”, though, and I will get to the other books in due time.
Don’t forget to send in your favourite quotes from the trilogy! You can do that in a comment to this post or on the forum. Even Libba thinks it’s a good idea!
Speaking of Libba, she has been updating her Livejournal a lot lately. Be sure to check it out!
As for the ‘A Great and Terrible Beauty’ movie, there is still no news.

Libba’s Movie Update:
October 10, 2008
Here you have it, folks. No cast. No Bonnie. No Brie. No LaLaine. No need to worry.
Okay. Movie stuff. I’m still waiting to hear from Icon (the production company) about a few things, but I had a nice chat with Eddie, my film agent, today. Here’s the update:
NOTHING HAS BEEN CAST. NOTHING. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ ON THE INTRAMANETS.
It’s still early days. We’re waiting on some stuff. Things are progressing. BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN CAST YET.
And there you have it.
I promise, when there is more news to report, I will post it here. So, you know, if you hear that they are now reinventing AGATB as a Kabuki sock puppet musical with songs by Radiohead and Shonen Knife intercut with odd, moody images of a lone tree, you can rest assured that unless it came from this site, it ain’t true.
Although now that is the only version I want to see.
Just to clear something up:
October 10, 2008
There is currently NO cast for the A Great and Terrible Beauty movie. Libba is going to give us an update today on what she finds out about the movie, but, until then, everything we hear about Bonnie or Brie or LaLaine is a rumor or a joke.
